At Glowrey Catholic Primary School we believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially.
It is our desire as educators to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas
Glowrey has adopted the concept of growth mindset as the basis for our learning philosophy. According to Carol Dweck, author of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, individuals who possess a growth mindset understand that persistence and hard work are required to improve one’s learning. Those with a growth mindset believe that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching and persistence.
Learning about growth mindset is important for all individuals not just for students. In order to embrace learning, a community must place high expectations on learning for all members of the community.
Encouraging a growth mindset
Growth mindset learners are more motivated to learn, demonstrate more effort and outperform those with a fixed mindset.
At Glowrey we place very high importance on teaching students to stretch themselves, persevere with things when they are hard or difficult and be resilient in the ways they cope when things are not going well. This is the hallmark of the Growth Mindset – a love of learning and resilience.
